I create one of a kind and limited edition jewelry using precious metals and stones, lustrous pearls and diamonds, and especially natural uncut diamonds. The stones are set in 22 karat gold bezels. I hand form each piece of jewelry with meticulous attention to detail.
Two specialized techniques are Keum-Boo and Shibuichi.
Keum-Boo involves a lengthy process of several annealings and cleanings. The oxides in the metal are depleted until a thin layer of nearly pure silver remains on the surface. The metal is formed and fabricated. I often etch the metal or imprint a pattern onto it using a rolling mill with various imprintable materials. Finally the piece is completed and a layer of pure gold (24 karat) is fused to the surface.
Shibuichi, an amalgamation of copper and pure silver, was originally used by Japanese craftsmen to embellish sword guards and hilts. It was prized for its delicate structural pattern and the way it would achieve a beautiful color over time.
The metals are amalgamated in a crucible, poured into an ingot, then rolled and annealed repeatedly in a rolling mill until the desired thickness is attained. A torch is used to reticulate the metal. After fabrication, a patina may be applied for coloring and shading effects.
